Golf tournament raises money for nonprofits

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club will be hosting its 19th annual Fore! Kidz golf tournament soon, according to event organizers.

The event will take place Saturday at Tiger's Eye in Ocean Ridge Plantation.

Sunset Beach receives grant for town park

 

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WECT) – Sunset Beach officials are celebrating a big win for the town. According to Councilwoman Karen Joseph, the town of Sunset Beach was awarded a grant for the developments of its town park.

The grant is worth more than $400,000. The money will be given to the town by the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund.

Joseph says the next step for the council is to review park proposals and requests to be part of the project.

SUPPLY, NC (April 29, 2013) – Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation is awarding two local students Touchstone Energy Sports Camp scholarships to summer basketball camps at two of the state’s largest college campuses.

Clara Elizabeth Tyson of Leland Middle School will attend the N.C. State Women’s Basketball Camp, and D’Kwanshe Stanley of Shallotte Middle School will attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp, both on full scholarships from BEMC.  Clara is the daughter of Beth Tyson. D’Kwanshe is the son of LaChella and Joseph Stanley.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Encouraging children to lead healthy-active lifestyles is Nick Westfall's passion. 

Westfall is the physical education teacher at Virginia Williamson Elementary and the brains behind free SEARCH 5k races that take place at least twice annually under the Holden Beach bridge. These races bring families from all over Brunswick County out to run, walk, and support the movement.  Just last weekend over 321 racers participated...a new record!

OIB hosting Pedal to the Beach event

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Ocean Isle Beach is hosting a bicycle Pedal to the Beach Fun Ride soon, according to a news release.

There will be 5 and 10-mile courses on the island, along with 30 and 60-mile routes over the high-rise bridge and throughout the southwestern part of Brunswick County.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The 2013 Spring Fling Tennis Tournament in Brunswick County is just around the corner.

According to Brunswick County Parks and Recreation, the adult tournament will be held Saturday, April 6 at Ocean Isle Beach Park, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain date 4/7/13).

The youth tournament will take place Saturday, April 20, also at Ocean Isle Beach Park.
