Jury deliberations in real estate agent murder case will continue Monday

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Closing arguments began Thursday morning for a murder case in Brunswick County, and the jury recessed Friday afternoon.

Craig Bryant is accused of killing real estate agent Adam Bradshaw in 2008. Bradshaw's body was found in Ocean Isle Beach days after he was reported missing. A preliminary autopsy report revealed the victim died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators said Bryant was upset over a real estate deal with Bradshaw.

Bryant it pleading not guilty, though a woman pleaded guilty earlier this year in connection to the same murder. Lora Moultrie, of Shallotte, admitted in court she helped kill Bradshaw.

The case will pick up again on Monday.

Possible new pool policy in Ocean Isle Beach

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – The pool policy in Ocean Isle Beach could be about to change. Mayor Debbie Sloan Smith said commissioners are trying to get the town up-to-date on Coastal Area Management regulations.

The new rule would allow only in-ground pools to be built along properties along the coast. The town decided at their meeting Tuesday morning to send the proposal to the planning board. If approved by the planning board, it will go back to commissioners for a vote.

Sheriff's office investigating arson in Ash

ASH, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what they believe is arson in the Ash community.

It was reported just before 1 a.m. Saturday in the 9000 block of No. 5 School Rd. According to the sheriff's office, the doublewide trailer was owned by BB&T Bank. The fire caused about $180,000 in damage.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating.

Economic Development Commission creates new position

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A new position in Brunswick County will help reach out to businesses and boost the area’s economy.

Brunswick County’s economic development director Jim Bradshaw said the commission recently hired a marketing specialist. This person will deal with social media and other issues.

Bradshaw said the new position will allow the commission’s other employees to spend more time reaching out to companies that may want to move to the county.

He said right now the commission is working on 12 projects that will hopefully be able to bring jobs to Brunswick County.
