BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Animal Protective Services in Brunswick County is hosting a rabies clinic this weekend at several locations.

According to officials, the clinic will take place Saturday, April 20. The cost is $6.

Locations and times are as follows:

  • Brunswick Animal Hospital, Supply - 8 am - Noon
  • Brunswick Forest Vet. Hospital, Leland - 8 am - Noon
  • Capeside Animal Hospital, Leland - 8 am – Noon
  • Four Paws Animal Hospital, Southport - 8 am - Noon
  • Leland Veterinarian Hospital, Leland - 8 am – 1 pm
  • Oak Island Animal Hospital, Oak Island - 8 am – Noon
  • Seaside Animal Care – Calabash - 8 am – Noon
  • Animal Shelter, Supply - 9 am – Noon
    (1 yr vaccines only)

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) - A local charity is in the running to get some big bucks, and there's still time to vote.

Adopt-an-Angel is in the top 200 for a $25,000 State Farm Grant.

The group encourages pet adoptions in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick Counties.

According to officials, the clinic will take place Saturday, April 20. The cost is $6.

Vote Now: Help Adopt an Angel win a grant to open new clinic

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Adopt and Angel program needs your vote to help raise money for a new spay and neuter clinic in Brunswick County.

Organizers submitted an application for a neighborhood assistance grant with State Farm last month. Out of 3,000 applicants, Adopt and Angel has qualified for the top 200.

Now, they need people to vote on Facebook to help them win. Fans can vote up to 10 times a day.

The top 40 vote-getting organizations will receive a $25,000 grant from State Farm Insurance.

Voting ends April 22 and winners will be announced on April 29.

The Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services will have an adoption fair Saturday, November 10 on the corner of Thomasboro Road and Beach Drive in Calabash.

The event will take place 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Female cat looking for new home

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A female cat in Brunswick County is in need of a loving home, according to the Brunswick County Animal Services website.

Angel Darlin, a brown and tan domestic medium hair, is thought to be about 6 months old. She’s been at the shelter since Oct. 22.

Retha Rusk named Bruns. Co. Principal of Year

Retha Rusk named Bruns. Co. Principal of Year

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Retha Rusk has been named Brunswick County Schools’ Principal of the Year for 2012-2013, according to a news release from school officials.

Rusk has been with Brunswick County Schools for 37 years. Prior to being principal at Lincoln Elementary, she was a teacher and computer support specialist and worked at Bolivia Elementary School, where she was twice named Teacher of the Year.

She was also assistant principal at Southport Elementary and Lincoln Elementary schools.
