Permanent county manager named in Brunswick Co.

Commission chair Phil Norris said the board named Ann Hardy to be the next county manager.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The search is over for a permanent county manager in Brunswick County.

Commission chair Phil Norris said the board named Ann Hardy to be the next county manager.

She was the former county finance director, and recently took over as interim manager when Marty Lawing left to accept a job in Guilford County.

Commissioners were impressed with Hardy and decided to keep her in the position permanently.

Stephanie McLean named Teacher of the Year at WBHS

Stephanie McLean named Teacher of the Year at WBHS

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Stephanie McLean was recently named West Brunswick High School’s Teacher of the Year, according to the school’s website.

McLean has been an educator for 15 years, and was selected for her character and professionalism.

School officials say she uses individualized instruction to help each of her students to be successful.

Museum hosting program on beach safety

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Museum of Coastal Carolina will be hosting a program on beach safety on Saturday, according to a museum spokesperson.

Starting at 11 a.m., attendees will learn what to do if caught in a rip current, learn when and when not to go swimming and more information about basic beach safety.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A public forum will take place soon for Brunswick County businessmen and women are asked to share their opinions on how the county can become a better place to do business, according to an event organizer.

Participants will also share issues and challenges they have faced and offer potential solutions.

YWCA Lower Cape Fear receives $15, 000 grant award for the fluid recovery program

News Release from YWCA:

(Wilmington, NC, May, 2013) -  The YWCA Lower Cape Fear is pleased to announce that it has received a $15,000 grant from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation for the Fluid Recovery program, which was developed in partnership with the Pretty in Pink Foundation. The Fluid Recovery program is modeled after the YWCA USA’s Encoreplus program that was created over 30 years ago.

Man charged with larceny of vehicle, breaking and or entering

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Brunswick County man was recently charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and breaking and or entering, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s office.

Thomas Wesley Sutter, 40, of Ash was arrested and charged May 4.

As of the time of this posting, he has not been released.

Authorities ask for help in identifying suspect, vehicle

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Authorities with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are asking for help in identifying either the vehicle or the person driving it in the photo above.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office says the person is of interest in connection to the larceny of a tractor trailer that happened within the last two weeks at Wayne's Backhoe in Calabash. 

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. John Holman at the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office at 910-253-2777.
