News
A local judge was awarded $105,000 in damages after a jury found a man guilty of libel.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – After four days of trial, a jury has sided with a superior court judge in Brunswick County.

A jury found Edward Rapp guilty of libel on Friday night.

Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis was awarded $105,000 in damages.

Lewis sued Edward Rapp after he made a post on Facebook accusing Lewis of violating judicial codes of conduct.

Lewis took the stand this week and told the jury that Rapp's statements were seen by many people in the area and that they were damaging to her reputation as a judge.

The jury in this case was asked to examine Rapp's first amendment rights.
