BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Charges against one of the suspects in a sweepstakes parlor robbery in Calabash last year have been dismissed, according to courthouse records in Brunswick County.
Xavier Jenrette is one of a handful of people accused in a robbery at Winners World in Calabash last November. Authorities claim Jenrette and others were part of a plot that included two people shooting out the front door and robbing the place. A man also died inside the parlor after the robbery due to a health issue.
Jenrette was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery with a dangerous weapon, simple possession of marijuana and several traffic offenses in unrelated matters.
The state asked Judge Jerry Jolly for a continuance in Jenrette's case, but Jolly denied the motion. According to officials, the state had no choice but to dismiss the charges. It is unclear at this point why the motion was denied.
The sheriff's office tells WECT.com that they do plan to refile the charges against Jenrette.
Detective Kyle Jones was the lead detective in this case, but Jones passed away unexpectedly last week.
