HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WECT) - The town of Holden Beach should consider charging visitors for parking to help fund future recreational opportunities, according to a proposed master plan for parks and recreation.
The report, released for consideration earlier this month, lists numerous opportunities for the town to consider in the next five years. Those include exercise classes, a historical walking tour, a nature tour and social group activities. Beyond a five year plan, the town is encouraged to embrace senior services.
Those who live in the town were surveyed to see what activities they'd like to see in the future. Ideas included a music festival, 4th of July celebration and seafood tasting festival.
To help pay for some of the programs, the town is encouraged to consider a user participation fee for some activities and parking fees. While considering charging for parking, the study suggests the town consider impact on local business, the potential burden for maintenance on the parking area, how much to charge and how to accept payment among other things.
The Holden Beach town board plans to discuss the proposed plan at its March 13th regular meeting.
