Calabash man charged with assault on a female

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Calabash man was recently charged with assault on a female, according to an arrest report from the Brunswick County Jail.

The report says that 35-year-old Lashayne Hammen Hill was arrested and charged March 8.

He was released the same day.

CAUGHT ON CAM: Deputy uses PIT maneuver to stop chase

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) –A man from South Carolina was arrested in Brunswick County late Wednesday night after running away from officers.

Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies were conducting a checkpoint in the Oxpen Road area, when one car ran through.

The car, driven by Darrell Levon Curry, 24 of Longs, SC, started speeding and then turned on Highway 17. Dash camera video shows the car driving erratically, swerving back and forth between lanes.

After a while a cruiser used a PIT maneuver to bringing it to a stop near Cumbee Road.

The dash camera video shows the car spinning out and then crashing into a ditch. You can see Curry get out of the car and attempt to run, but was stopped by law enforcement.

Curry and a deputy were taken to the hospital for evaluation, but have since been released.

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Detectives in Ocean Isle Beach busted a man for stealing golf cart batteries.

According to officials, Thomas Jason Swan was wanted in the area for stealing boats, trailers, batteries and copper.

Detectives were tipped off about Swann after he was arrested for stealing batteries in White Lake.

Swann was charged with seven counts of misdemeanor larceny. More charges are expected to come.

Man sells drugs to undercover agents, pleads guilty

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man who sold cocaine to undercover agents was sentenced to nine years in prison.

According to the US Department of Justice, Frederick Williams, 29 of Ash, pleaded guilty Wednesday to six counts of distribution of a quantity of cocaine base.

In addition to serving time in jail, Williams will have three years supervised release.

According to the Department of Justice, an undercover agent purchased crack cocaine from Williams on six separate occasions in the Longwood area of Brunswick County between August and October 2011.

Woman charged with assault on a government employee/official

SHALLOTTE, NC (WECT) – A Shallotte woman has been charged with assault on a government employee/official, according to an intake report from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryan Callahan Watson, 34, was charged on Feb. 22.

She was also booked and released that same day.
