BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A 27-year-old Myrtle Beach man was convicted in Brunswick County Superior Court Wednesday for trafficking in cocaine, according to a spokesperson for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
Tristan Jaymar McNeil was arrested Feb. 4, 2012 at a motor vehicle checking station in Shallotte that was conducted by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Traffic Unit.
McNeil tried to avoid the checking station, and was subsequently stopped. Authorities found him to be in possession of 48 grams of cocaine, or the equivalent of 400 street doses.
He was sentenced to a minimum of two years and 11 months in prison with a maximum of three years and six months. He also must pay a $50,000 fine.
He has already served a year and three months in the Brunswick County Detention Facility.
McNeil pleaded no contest to the charges, and a motion to suppress the checking station was made but denied by Superior Court Judge Mary Ann Tally.
