SHALLOTTE, NC (WECT) – A Shallotte man has been arrested and faces charges in connection to disability insurance fraud, according to a news release from a spokesperson for the North Carolina Department of Insurance.

Matthew Scott Cameron, 42, of the 1730 block of Point Winward Place was arrested Monday and charged with four counts of insurance fraud, three counts of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

Investigators say that Cameron filed short term disability claims that were fraudulent between January and May of 2011 with AFLAC Insurance Company. As a result, he received $6,320 in benefits.

Cameron was arrested with the help of parole officers from the NC Department of Correction Division of Community Corrections, and he was held under a $10,000 bond at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility.
